HELPFUL TIPS FOR PARENTS

Let the child be an enquirer and help him to solve problems with his existing knowledge.

Encourage questions – they stimulate and nurture creative behaviour.

Guide children to discover and become curious.

Establish attitudes and values and a philosophy of creative living.

The child who discovers in the early childhood years that learning is exciting, will develop a life-long affinity for learning.

Give the child an opportunity to investigate, to manipulate, to explore and discover.

Give the child an opportunity to theorise and philosophies.

Encourage the use of tools (scissors and brushes) for investigating and using materials and media to further his/her search for answers.

Stimulate his/her curiosity about the environment.

Be a discoverer and inquirer yourself. Let children see you enjoy discovering things.

Help children to cultivate an “idea-trap” habit, jotting down ideas for future use.

Provide children with encouragement in problem-solving by showing interest in their projects.

Encourage children to develop a sense of smell

Encourage children to observe – to use eyes, ears and hands.

Help children to develop sensitivity to touch – to feel textures.

Help children to develop auditory sense – sounds may become a stimulus for creativity.

Provide basic materials – paper, paint, etc.

Encourage manipulation and experimentation with materials to explore their characteristics.
